CINCINNATI — The Breast Cancer Alliance of Greater Cincinnati (BCA), an all volunteer, non profit group has made a $10,000 donation to the Department of Environmental Health in honor of their 10th year of service to the community. In turn the Department of Environmental Health will use this donation towards the establishment of a Breast Cancer registry for greater Cincinnati.

The BCA has been involved with researchers at the University of Cincinnati looking at a potential link between the environment and breast cancer. It became evident that this project and others that will follow will need data to work with. Currently there is no up to date information about study populations in the greater Cincinnati area. A collection of data about breast cancer survivors in our area is needed to design future research studies and to use as a vehicle for recruitment of study populations.

“The BCA wanted to give a gift that was not only meaningful and long lasting, but one that also recognized the vision our Founding members had 10 years ago when they formed the BCA.” Said Ann Hernick, President of the BCA. “Those Founding members specifically wanted to explore the connection between the high incidence of breast cancer in our community and the environment.”

This registry is currently asking all those diagnosed with breast cancer at any time in their life to fill out a survey so that their information can be included in this breast cancer registry. All information will be confidential. To receive a packet please call Andrea Ice at 513-558-0854 or email andrea.ice@uc.edu.
